Regional Capacity for eduroam and Identity Federation

EthERNet participated in a regional training on eduroam and Identity Federation organized by the UbuntuNet Alliance in Kampala, Uganda, from 17–21 August 2026.

The five-day training brought together network and systems engineers from UbuntuNet Alliance member National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) to strengthen regional technical capacity in the deployment, operation, and management of eduroam and Identity Federation services.

Representing EthERNet, the participating technical team joined fellow NREN engineers from across the region for hands-on sessions, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing focused on strengthening authentication and federated access services for the research and education community.

The training is part of ongoing efforts by the UbuntuNet Alliance and its member NRENs to build sustainable regional expertise and expand services that enable secure and seamless access to digital resources across institutions and countries.

For EthERNet, participation in the training contributes to its continued efforts to strengthen national research and education network services and advance the implementation of eduroam and federated identity services for Ethiopian higher education and research institutions.

The event brought together 25 network and systems engineers from 13 UbuntuNet Alliance member NRENs, providing an important platform for regional collaboration, experience sharing, and strengthening technical capacity.
